HEART ATTACK

In the condition of heart attack the coronary artery that supply blood to the heart becomes blocked by a clott; the part heart muscle that this artery supplies becomes deprive of oxygen and is damaged .This condition usually becomes the reason of severe pain in the chest which may lasts for hours but other symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, faintness and breathlessness.

If the damage to the heart muscle is long ,the heart may fail in its job of providing enough blood for the body to function properly.

It is acceptable that the heart attack is often , sudden and dramatic even ,so it is the result of the process that has been going on for many years .The coronary arteries start to become narrow in youth or early adult life and this condition is due to a gradual deposition of fatty substances in the lining of blood vessels .The wall of such a diseased artery may crack the platelets that become attached to the damaged area.

A clot is formed which is made up of fibrous material called on the top of this .which may partly or completely block the artery .If the cells of heart muscle supplied by this artery are starved of oxygen for more than a few minutes ,they may die ,this is called “myocardial infarction”.

Myocardial means the heart muscle and “infarction” to its death.

Heart attack can start at any time of day or night .Very occasionally it can be occur on by intensive physical or emotional stress.

FACTORS:

The most important risk factors are cigarette smoking ,high blood pressure and high cholesterol in blood .coronary disease sometimes runs in families and that in middle age its chances increases in men than in women.
